Day 1: Overnight Flight

Set out to explore Scandinavia by land as you experience one of the world’s most incredible regions.

Day 2: Copenhagen, Denmark - Tour Begins

Your tour opens in the beautiful city of Copenhagen. Take some time to venture out on your own and come to know this cosmopolitan capital, dubbed the “gastro capital of Scandinavia.” Tonight, meet your fellow travelers during a local dining experience highlighting the New Nordic Cuisine movement of Copenhagen.

Day 3: Copenhagen

Join a local expert for an engaging city tour. View Denmark’s center of Parliament, known as Christianborg; Amalienborg Palace, the residence of the Danish royal family; and the Royal Theater. You’ll also see the Little Mermaid Statue, a 1913 sculpture honoring Hans Christian Andersen’s famous fictional character. This afternoon, enjoy some free time. Perhaps you’ll join us for an optional excursion to Frederiksborg Castle (formerly the residence of the Danish royal family) that begins with lunch at a local restaurant featuring seasonally inspired cuisine.

Day 4: Copenhagen - Vaxjo, Sweden

Cross the famous Oresund Bridge into Sweden. Stop at the Ikea Museum to be immersed in the history of this signature furniture brand. Later, travel to Vaxjo – gateway to Sweden’s famous “glass kingdom,” home to the well-known brand Kosta Boda. Discover the genuine Swedish tradition of glassblowing at Sweden’s oldest operating glassworks factory, established in 1742.

Day 5: Vaxjo - Stockholm

Continue north to Sweden’s capital city of Stockholm. Stop to explore the one-of-a-kind Vasa Ship Museum and learn about its shocking maiden voyage when it sank in one nautical mile. This ship, commissioned in the 1600s by King Vasa, was raised 334 years later from the bottom of the harbor. Perfectly preserved, it offers a rare glimpse into the amazing craftsmanship of the 17th century. This afternoon, it’s your choice! Explore the narrow streets of Gamla Stan (Old Town) during a guided walking tour with a stop at one of Sweden’s sweetest traditions, a candy cane making factory, for a demonstration. Or, see the city on a panoramic coach tour that highlights the Riddarholm Church, the Royal Palace and the Parliament, as well as a visit inside Stockholm’s beautiful city hall. Tonight, enjoy Swedish cuisine in the old town at Fem Sma Hus. This stunning restaurant, comprised of five connected timber-framed houses from the 17th century, captures the flavor of a bygone era.

Day 6: Stockholm

The day is yours to explore Stockholm independently. Discover its strikingly colorful architecture and sample its innovative cuisine. Perhaps you will choose to join an optional excursion that offers a privately guided tour of Stockholm’s spectacular archipelago.

Day 7: Stockholm - High Speed Train - Oslo, Norway

All aboard! Sit back, relax and enjoy as you travel through Sweden’s picturesque countryside aboard the innovative high-speed train. Cross the Norwegian border and arrive in Oslo, one of Europe’s fastest-growing cities, nestled between the Oslofjord and forested hills. Norway’s capital since 1814, Oslo is the center of Norwegian government and home to the royal family. You’ll find a vibrant, cosmopolitan hub with an abundance of world-class museums, restaurants and art.

Day 8: Oslo

A tour of Oslo begins at the remarkable Viking Ship Museum, home of three ancient Viking ships. Continue along Karl Johan Street and view the Royal Palace and city hall in quaint downtown Oslo. Next, visit Vigeland Park, home to the collection of statues and sculptures that comprise Gustav Vigeland's life’s work. Later this afternoon, enjoy some free time to relax or explore independently.

Day 9: Oslo - Flåm

Depart Norway’s capital and travel north to the majestic fjord region. Visit the Borgund Stave Church. This intricate structure, built in 1180, is dedicated to the Apostle Andrew. Arrive in the quaint village of Flåm, nestled at the entrance to the stunning Aurlandsfjord. Embark on one of the world’s steepest train rides, the renowned Flåm Railway. Ascend to 3,000 feet, passing mighty waterfalls, towering mountains and amazing valleys. Journey to the mountain plateau of Myrdal and cascade down to the fjord of Flåm offering breathtaking views each way.

Day 10: Flåm - Loen

Travel across the dramatic Sognefjord to the Briksdal Glacier, considered to be one of the most beautiful glaciers in Norway. Climb the glacier in a traditional “troll” car before arriving in stunning Loen for a relaxing stay in the heart of Norway’s fjord region.

Day 11: Loen - Geiranger - Fjord Cruise - Loen

Spend the day enchanted by the inspiring landscape of the fjord region of Norway. Journey to Geiranger, a UNESCO World Heritage site, and embark on an exhilarating Geirangerfjord cruise, taking in some of the most beautiful scenery in Norway along the way. Known as one of the most famous fjords in the world, Geirangerfjord is where you find Norway’s mighty waterfalls: the Seven Sisters, the Bridal Veil and the Suitor. Homesteads are a continued presence on the steep sides of the mountains, where farms have been kept for centuries.

Day 12: Loen - Bergen

Take in Norway’s most impressive landscapes en route to Bergen, known as the gateway to the fjords. Bergen was founded with Viking roots and today is known for its old-world charm and scenic landscape.

Day 13: Bergen

Join your fellow travelers on a guided walking tour of Bergen. Stroll along the historic and iconic harbor front, known as the Bryggen (UNESCO). Enjoy the afternoon at leisure and reunite with your fellow passengers for an atmospheric farewell dinner in the historic Bryggen neighborhood.

The Tastes of Bergen $75

City: Bergen

Come to know the flavors of Bergen on a locally guided, food sampling tour. Visit a host of local cafes, markets, bakeries and historic buildings while hearing about Norwegian and Bergen food traditions and specialties. Become familiar with the cuisine through sampling traditional fish soup, fish cakes, whale meat, lefse (a sweet treat), smoked salmon, brown cheese, reindeer sausages and a traditional Bergen cinnamon bun, amongst other typical local dishes. Complete your tour with a glass of wine or pint of beer at a local establishment and learn about Norwegian produced alcohol and traditions.

IMPORTANT

We recommend that our clients travelling abroad take a photocopy of their passport and applicable visas. It should be packed separately from your actual passport and visa. We also recommend leaving a copy at home with your emergency contact.

Single accommodations are limited and are available on a first come, first served basis. Triple accommodations are not available on this tour.

To complete your tour, we include roundtrip airport-to-hotel transfers when purchasing our airfare with your tour. If you have arranged for your own air, we are pleased to provide you the option of purchasing these transfers. Please note that all transfers will leave at pre-scheduled times.
